EOTC

As part of the Year 10 programme students will be participating in four days of Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC). The focus of this programme is one of citizenship and social awareness. The four days of activities in which your son/daughter will participate are as follows: Community Service, Ferg’s Kayaks Course, Laser Paintball and H2O Xtreme, Mount KauKau Walk.

Community Service (Day 1)

Students will complete one day of community service assisting local residents and businesses. This will usually occur within walking distance of Tawa College for all Year 10 students. This day has the key focus of citizenship and has been a great success in previous years.

Fergs Kayaks (Day 2)

Students will travel into Wellington on the train where they will each participate in 2 hours of Rock Climbing as well as 2 hours of either Kayaking or Stand Up Paddle boarding. This day will involve team work and collaboration between the students, helping to develop team work skills and unity between the students. It is also a fantastic chance for students to try something they may not have done before and possibly even push their limits of fear and comfort.

Paintball and H20 Xtreme (Day 3)

Students will need to work together in a team using strategy and providing leadership opportunities to outwit their opposition in a few games of Laser Paintball. After this fun and action packed morning students will enjoy the fantastic facilities of H2O Xtreme with full access to all of their rides. A key focus of this day will be on of reflection and perceptions of life in New Zealand and how this compares to other nations

Mount KauKau Walk (Day 4)

A full day trip starting at Kaiwharawhara train station walking along part of Wellington's Northern Walkway all the way to the top of Mount KauKau before dropping down to Khandallah Park. Along the way students will experience a part of Wellington that few people realise exist hopefully helping them create a more holistic perception of the Wellington environment.
